This is a really special experience like no other! In a small and intimate group setting we will be creating herbal medicines from foraged, wild-harvested herbs, and from the herb’s grown in our own apothecary garden in Avebury. You will learn to use a still to distil your own floral waters. You will make tinctures in the way that they were made 1000 years ago using the Simplers’ Method, and make cold-water macerations, infused herbal oils, tisanes, tablets and delightful balms from the flowers, roots and stems that are all around us, and from beeswax and cocoa butter
Together we will create effective formulas for the relief of many common complaints, for example; allergies, insomnia and stress, bunged-up noses (fungal toesies too), bruises, bites, stings and cramp, aches and pains, varicose veins, holiday tummies, period pain, cramps, coughs, cold sores and gout… and of course colds and the flu!

You will learn to identify all of the plants that we use and discover where they like to grow. Time will be taken to answer your questions and we will discuss when you should see a doctor or clinical herbalist rather than self-treat, and the ways that the herbs that we use could contradict or interact with any existing conditions or medicines – to make sure that you are keeping yourself safe.

So… if you are ready to reduce your dependence on over-the-counter medicines and want to discover how to make your own effective remedies instead, with the knowledge to make them again and again for the benefit of your family and your community… even if medicines were to become scarce in the future… then this is definitely the course for you!
You will take home EVERY remedy that you make, and that’s quite a toolkit. It usually includes tinctures, balms, flower essences, infused oils, capsules and herbal teas, for example.

Imagine for a minute… instead of taking a trip to the pharmacy for minor ailments, you will be creating your own…
… and in the evening, outside of teaching hours, you can take a stroll around the Avebury landscape, among the 28 acres of majestic stones surrounding the village that were erected by the people living here 4,300 years ago. Avebury is the largest stone circle in the world and people must have travelled long distances on foot to visit. You could also stop for a pint in the haunted Red Lion pub! More information about the stone circles can be found at //avebury-stones.co.uk/blog/

Please note: We will not be serving food this year. We will however be serving tea, herbal teas & coffee. There are a number of excellent venues which serve food at lunch-times in the village, or alternatively you are welcome to bring your own packed lunch.
